The over-commissioned and polluted Xili Reservoir was caused by rapid urbanization and jerry-rigged engineering. Our nature-based regeneration planning approach revived the natural ecosystem of water treatment. Regenerate the aquiculture water town community back with the river land. Restoring and uncovering closed stormwater storage tand canals and lost water edges for biodiversity and recreation.
Our nature-based planning won Urbangene both the commission and an AIA Merit Award.

Dongyang is one of the most prosperous industrial county cities in Zhejiang Providence. Similar to many other growing cities- the speed of urban infrastructure development has not caught up with the economic prosperity and is in desperate need of an urban transformation. Urbangene approached Dongyang by first understanding its DNA, understanding the existing connection of the geographic location, and the industries driving its competitiveness. We developed a plan that can be incrementally rolled out: A new city riverfront skyline, regeneration strategies for the older area, a new circulation infrastructure system that is scientifically based and strengthens connectivity, and a series of urban public spaces relating to the local culture and its history as a water town. Most importantly our plan creates a new identity for Donyang with a nature-based driven plan that accentuates the natural scenic setting of river and mountain.
